Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been stripped of his honorary degree by Howard University amid shocking abuse allegations.
The university’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously to revoke the degree, which was conferred upon Combs in 2014, citing his behavior as “fundamentally incompatible” with the institution’s values.
According to a statement, “The Howard University Board of Trustees voted unanimously today to accept the return by Mr. Sean Combs of the honorary degree conferred upon him in 2014.”
The decision comes after a recently released video showed Combs physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie Ventura, at a hotel in 2016.
Ventura had alleged in a federal lawsuit that Combs raped and beat her during their relationship, and the suit was settled the day after it was filed.
Since then, four additional lawsuits have accused Combs of sexual assault and sex trafficking, prompting a raid on his homes by Homeland Security officials in March.
As a result, Howard University has disbanded the scholarship program in Combs’ name, returned his $1 million contribution, and terminated a 2023 pledge agreement with the Sean Combs Foundation.
The university stated that Combs’ behavior “is so fundamentally incompatible with Howard University’s core values and beliefs that he is deemed no longer worthy to hold the institution’s highest honor.”
Combs, who attended Howard University from 1987 to 1989, has faced widespread criticism over the allegations.
The move by Howard University marks a significant rebuke of Combs’ actions, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to upholding its values and protecting its students.
