Mary J. Blige Says “It’s Wack” That Wealthy Women Have to Pay Men Alimony

Mary J. Blige has launched a scathing attack on the alimony system, branding it “wack” after her own bitter experience.

The singer, who divorced ex-husband Kendu Issacs in 2016, spoke out on Earn Your Leisure, saying: “I didn’t have a prenup, and that’s why I ended up giving everything away.”

Blige, 51, was shocked to learn she had to pay her ex-husband Kendu Issacs $30,000 a month in spousal support after their divorce.

She expressed her outrage, saying: “When I was getting a divorce, I was like, ‘You mean to tell me I gotta pay him?! And he cheated and he lied'” Blige felt it was unfair to support Issacs’ lifestyle, especially given his infidelity.

The Grammy winner has previously spoken about her divorce, telling Angie Martinez in February 2022: “I had to give up all this alimony, and I didn’t have no more money to give because he had spent it all.”

Blige’s latest album, Good Morning Gorgeous, features the song “Rent Money“, inspired by her divorce drama.

Her comments have sparked a heated debate on social media, with fans rallying around the singer and calling for reform of the alimony system.
