Johnny Depp Sells Portrait Painting of Bob Marley for Thousands
Despite the high prices, Johnny Depp’s artwork—which included portraits of celebrities like Heath Ledger and Bob Marley—sold out. The actor-turned-artist made the silk-screen prints, which vanished from the market as soon as they were released.
A collection of celebrity portraits, including those of Bob Marley, Heath Ledger, River Phoenix, and Hunter S. Thompson, titled “Johnny Depp’s Friends & Heroes II,” was put up for sale by Castle Fine Art in the United Kingdom. A major star’s unique window into Hollywood was how the retailer characterized the collection.
The famous artist was strikingly similar to the subject of the Bob Marley painting, which also featured personal elements like lyrics from his hit song “War” and words of resistance.
The collection featured a unique portrait of Heath Ledger, displaying his face along with facial features and hair similar to his critically acclaimed portrayal of the Joker in the Batman film.

The four paintings together were originally priced at £21,000, or £17,500 each. Individual paintings were also offered for $5,400 each. Variety reports that within hours of the announcement, all 780 prints were sold out.
According to the description of the artist’s process, each subject was intimately reflected in Johnny’s eyes, images were simplified to iconic representations, and distinctive freehand touches were added.
The second art sale by Depp, titled “Friends & Heroes II,” comes after his first collection, “Friends & Heroes,” which featured $4,740 paintings of Bob Dylan, Elizabeth Taylor, Keith Richards, and Al Pacino.
Even though Bob Marley passed away in 1981, his legacy and music are still felt today. Some of Johnny Depp’s most important songs feature lyrics by Bob Marley, about which the actor has talked.
