Jada Pinkett-Smith confirms Tupac proposed to her while in jail
Jada Pinkett-Smith delves into the intimate moments when rapper Tupac Shakur proposed to her while incarcerated at Rikers Island in New York in an open and passionate interview on the popular “All The Smoke” podcast, presented by Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson.
Drawing on her newly released book, “Worthy,” Pinkett-Smith offers interesting insights into the crucial events that occurred when she was visiting Shakur in prison.
“That was probably one of the more painful parts seeing him there, the condition he was in and he was in a bad shape,” said Jada Pinkett-Smith.

Shakur was given a 1.5 to 4.5-year prison sentence for a case of sexual abuse involving a fan on February 7, 1995, only one month before the release of his third album, “Me Against the World,” at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York.
Shakur used a visit from Jada Pinkett-Smith to the well-known rapper as an occasion to pop the question.
“When he asked me to marry him, he was in Rikers and I knew at that time he needed somebody to do time with him which I was going to do anyway. You have to marry me to do that, right?” said Pinkett-Smith.
“But he needed a rock, he needed because of our friendship and because of everything we had been through together. He wanted to feel that solidified foundation. ‘Cause I promise you, he would have married me and divorced me as soon as his a** left,” she added.
