Garrett Morris To Kick Off Black History Month With His Own Walk Of Fame Ceremony
Garrett Morris, an iconic character in Black Hollywood, will get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The ceremony, slated for February 1 at 11:30 a.m. PT, falls on his 87th birthday.
Ana Martinez, the Hollywood Walk of Fame’s producer, characterized Morris as a great showbiz icon. The celebration will feature guest speakers including director-producer Oz Scott and actress Tichina Arnold.
Morris, a Juilliard-trained performer, spent eleven years performing with the Harry Belafonte Singers before turning to acting. He made appearances in a number of Broadway and off-Broadway musicals, including “The Great White Hope,” “Show Boat,” “Ain’t Supposed To Die A Natural Death,” and Porgy and Bess.
Apart from that, he’s known from television series like The Jeffersons, Scandal, All Of Us, Grand Crew, The Wayans Bros., Martin, The Jamie Foxx Show, Self-Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker, and most recently, 2 Broke Girls. In addition, Morris is well-known for being one of Saturday Night Live’s founding stars.

Morris gained popularity during the “News for the Hard of Hearing” section for his accurate impersonations of celebrities such as Idi Amin, James Brown, Bob Marley, Sammy Davis Jr., and Muhammad Ali.
In addition to his artistic abilities, he is renowned for being an activist who, alongside poet-playwright Amiri Baraka, was instrumental in the desegregation of Actor’s Equity and participated in the Black Arts Theater movement.
Morris presently owns and runs the Los Angeles Blues and Comedy Club. Morris is a native of New Orleans. Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa recognized him in 2007 for his services to the Black community.
