Ed Sheeran is considering a transition into country music, expressing his desire to explore this genre.
The 32-year-old renowned pop star, known for his successful albums ‘+’ ‘x’ ‘=’ ‘÷’ and ‘-‘, is now contemplating new directions in his career. In an interview on NBC’s ‘Today,’ he shared his thoughts, stating that after 13 years of knowing what his path in the music industry entailed, he is now faced with uncertainty about what to pursue next.
Sheeran revealed that during his time spent living in Nashville for a few years, he developed a deep appreciation for country music and even contemplated pursuing it himself.
“I’ve known for the past 13 years what Mathematics would be, and now it’s, like, what to do next There’s lots of questions going around in my head. I lived in Nashville for a couple of years, and I kind of fell in love with country music there. That’s something I would love to do at some point.”
According to the ‘Eyes Closed’ hitmaker, his fascination with country music stems from his love for the culture surrounding it, which he experienced firsthand during his time in Nashville. He discovered the close-knit community of songwriters that thrives in the Southern United States, and it left a lasting impression on him.

Ed Sheeran never listened to the genre.
Surprisingly, Ed Sheeran admitted that he had never truly listened to the genre until he had the opportunity to support Taylor Swift on her ‘Red’ tour in 2013. Now, inspired by his time in Nashville and captivated by the essence of country music, he has expressed his genuine interest in exploring this genre at some point in his career.
“I love the culture of it, I just love the songwriting. It’s just like brilliant songs. It’s like a community. There’s not really a place in Europe where you could point and say, ‘That’s the home of songwriting,’” he says. “It’s not just for country music. Nashville is just a hub of incredible songwriters, incredible performers. And I really felt inspired just being there being around everyone.
“I’d never really listened to country music as a kid growing up. It was only being on Taylor’s Red tour and living in Nashville and her basically introducing me to that side of it.”
