Ed Sheeran sheds tears as he remembers the death of Jamal Edwards in new documentary

Ed Sheeran has paid tribute to his late best friend Jamal Edwards in a documentary titled Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All. The documentary sheds light on the personal events that inspired Ed to complete his latest album.

Ed revealed that while his wife Cherry Seaborn was diagnosed with cancer on February 20, 2022, he also found out that his friend Jamal, who founded SBTV and was a music executive, had suddenly passed away at the age of 31.

Ed spoke candidly about the impact of grief on his life, stating that it had made him feel like an adult. He also expressed his feelings of loss and rawness while remembering Jamal.

The funeral had been particularly difficult for him, and he recounted the moment when he was handed a shovel to put dirt on his friend’s grave, describing it as a weird experience.

Despite his sorrow, Ed managed to sing the song Eyes Closed and dedicated it to Jamal at the end of the documentary.

Ed Sheeran’s cherished grandmother, who inspired his chart-topping song “Nancy Mulligan,” also passed away recently, leaving the singer heartbroken.

Anne Mary, also known as Nancy Sheeran, but originally named Mulligan, passed away peacefully at Castle Gardens Nursing Home in Enniscorthy, Republic of Ireland, last Tuesday. Ed, aged 32, composed the song for his third album, Divide, which was released in 2017. The song narrates the tale of Anne’s love story with Ed’s grandfather, William, despite their contrasting religious backgrounds.
