Since March 2022, Smith has stayed out of the public eye. He got into trouble at the Oscars for slapping Chris Rock on stage after a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, who has alopecia. Smith was banned from the Oscars for 10 years and said sorry publicly.
Later, Rock criticized Smith in a comedy special. Pinkett Smith also shared that she and Will Smith had been separated for years before the incident. In her book “Worthy,” she wrote, “I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him.’ It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realized it wasn’t a skit.”
