Will Jonathan Majors Get a Second Chance Like These White Actors
With remarkable performances in “Lovecraft Country,” “The Harder They Fall,” and “The Last Black Man in San Francisco,” Jonathan Majors’ career has taken off in the last few years. These roles have helped him enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Kang the Conqueror for the Multiverse Saga. His outstanding performance in “Creed III” has further cemented his status as one of Hollywood’s quickest-rising stars.
But on March 26, everything changed when the actor was taken into custody on charges of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari in what the NYPD called a “domestic dispute.” Two counts of third-degree assault, harassment, and aggravated harassment were brought against him. There was constant talk about him possibly being fired by Marvel between his arrest and the December trial, and the much awaited movie “Magazine Dreams” was postponed indefinitely.
The influence extends beyond Marvel, as his portrayal of complex character development in “Creed III” demonstrated remarkable skill. The difficult task ahead for producers and directors is determining whether or not viewers will be drawn to him in gritty, intense roles in light of the shocking details of his two-year relationship with Jabbari.

Troublesome men in Hollywood, particularly white men, frequently have opportunities to make amends, as evidenced by the careers of Mel Gibson and Louis CK. Their public transgressions notwithstanding, their careers remain prosperous.
Jonathan Majors is a gifted actor who may serve time in prison. It remains to be seen if he will be able to turn his life around by first turning to Black audiences rather than mainstream casting. This could be his best opportunity to make amends.
