Usher Opens Up About Heartbreak When Chilli Turned Down Proposal
Usher loved Chilli from TLC a lot, but they broke up, which made him very sad. He had a big Super Bowl show and will earn over $100 million from music and deals. He married Jennifer Goicoechea shortly after the Super Bowl. In an interview at the Super Bowl, Usher said he proposed to Chilli when they dated from 2001 to 2004.
Usher, who is 45 years old and from Tennessee, said he went to Atlanta at 15 to start his music career and released his first album, “My Way.” He likes dating older women, and when he started dating Chilli, she was seven years older than him. Usher mentioned that he admired Chilli from TV and magazines since he was young and even had a poster of her, dreaming of meeting her one day.
“If I am to be honest, I was her No. 1 fan, and she was my superstar… At the age of 8, I put her poster on my wall and said, ‘Man, that girl is so beautiful. One day I’m going to meet her,’” he said, hinting that the song “Superstar” on his ‘Confessions’ was about Chilli.
Usher and Chilli dated for three years but broke up in 2004, which was very sad for Usher. He said they split because he was young and had different ideas about their relationship than she did. Usher wanted her to be with him more, but she didn’t think he loved her as much as he said he did.
“I was a young man, and she had very specific rules that didn’t work for me. We were missing each other. I really did want to have a different type of relationship where she was there with me, and she couldn’t be. She didn’t believe that I was actually in love with her as much as I was,” Usher said.

, “I wanted to marry her. I proposed, and she told me no. I went through a great deal of pain after that, not trusting women or wanting to open up.”
He also said he hurt Chilli, and the end of the relationship “broke my heart.”
Usher and Chilli’s relationship had its challenges, with Chilli feeling that Usher couldn’t meet her standards. They had an on-and-off relationship after the breakup, but Usher was cautious because he still had strong feelings for her. He tried his best to make things work but felt like his efforts weren’t enough for her.
However, they’ve moved past the heartbreak and are in a good place now. Chilli is currently dating actor Matthew Lawrence and looked happy during their recent trip to Jamaica for his birthday.
