Travis Kelce Named Athlete of the Year at 2024 People’s Choice Awards
Travis Kelce won Athlete of the Year at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards on February 18, following his Super Bowl win. He didn’t attend the awards held in California, where his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, won four out of five nominations but couldn’t make it due to her Eras Tour in Australia.
Before, Kelce responded to his nomination in January, jokingly calling it “f–king nonsense” on his “New Heights” podcast and questioning why he was nominated for Athlete of the Year, teasingly mentioning his appearance on SNL
Kelce’s connection with Swift, which began last summer, attracted notice in addition to his tight end abilities. On February 11, Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25–22 in overtime to win their second straight Super Bowl, and Swift was there. Swift and Kelce’s mother joined the squad on the field to celebrate the victory. Later, on stage, Kelce took the Lombardi Trophy, sang “Viva Las Vegas,” and planted a passionate kiss on Swift.

Swift described the experience as “unbelievable” to Travis on the field, stating it was one of the craziest things she had ever experienced. Travis, in response, expressed feeling “on top of the world” and described it as a good feeling to reporters. Even before the Super Bowl, Travis had a successful season and remained one of the top players in the league. In 2023, he had 93 catches for 984 yards and scored five touchdowns in 15 games.
In November 2023, the Chiefs announced on Instagram that Travis became the fastest tight end to reach 11,000 receiving yards and the only player in franchise history to achieve this. Travis also discussed his NFL future recently, expressing his intent to continue playing football and exploring other opportunities like getting on camera, which he found fulfilling. He acknowledged that while these opportunities opened up new paths for him, he believes they are further down the road in his career.
