Toby Keith confirmed dead after battling stomach cancer

Country singer Toby Keith passed away peacefully on February 5th at the age of 62 after battling stomach cancer, as confirmed by his publicist Elaine Schock. He is survived by his wife Tricia, three children Shelley, Krystal, and Stelen, and his mother and two siblings.

In 2022, Toby Keith shared his diagnosis of stomach cancer, undergoing treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Despite his health challenges, he continued to perform, including recent shows in Las Vegas, expressing a desire to spend time with his family and meet fans again.

Earlier this month, Toby Keith shared a video with advice for songwriters, emphasizing the importance of consistent effort, stating that he wrote most of his songs by dedicating four to five days a week to writing. He stressed the need for practice, volume, and staying engaged in the craft to maintain skill.

Keith received the Country Icon Award at the 2023 People’s Choice Country Awards and performed hits like “Red Solo Cup” and “I Wanna Talk About Me,” following his debut album release in 1993. His 2002 song “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)” gained widespread recognition after the 9/11 attacks. Additionally, he performed numerous concerts for US service members overseas, including in Afghanistan and Iraq, and often donated wheelchairs to wounded veterans at his shows.

In 2021, former President Trump honored Keith with the National Medal of Arts, recognized as “the highest award given to artists and arts patrons by the United States government,” despite Keith’s self-identification as a third-generation Democrat and his statement to CNN in 2010 that his support for service members was apolitical.
