Taylor Swift said she was “devastated” to learn of a fan’s passing just before her Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, concert. Her heart was “shattered,” she wrote on Instagram, calling the fan too young and extraordinarily beautiful.
Swift was seen giving fans water bottles during the performance, despite the intense heat.
“I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show,” Swift wrote.
“I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this.”
“I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends.”

She said that the fan’s passing was “the last thing” she had anticipated happening while on her Brazilian tour. Swift provided few details about the incident; however, a Brazilian newspaper reported that the fan passed away from cardiorespiratory arrest after fainting at the stadium.
Swift was seen throwing a water bottle into the crowd during her performance of “All Too Well,” and she was also seen in photos and videos posted on social media pleading with stadium employees to give fans water.
The Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro was illuminated to welcome the well-known pop singer Taylor Swift when she arrived in Brazil this week for her record-breaking Eras Tour.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, some of her previous performances in Brazil had to be canceled. Before heading to Sao Paulo, Swift has two more shows in Rio de Janeiro. In June 2024, she will make her next trip to the UK, performing in Cardiff, Edinburgh, London, and Liverpool.
