Nick Carter’s Family in Custody Battle for Late Sister Bobbie Jean’s Daughter
The Carter family is in a legal battle for custody of Bobbie Jean Carter’s 9-year-old daughter. Jane Schneck, the mother of Nick and Aaron Carter, is seeking full custody of the child following Bobbie’s tragic death. Jane and her husband, Gregory, are asking the court to grant them custody of the minor, who was reportedly left with a “non-relative” by Bobbie before her passing in December.
In an emergency petition filed on January 17, Jane and Gregory claim they are the best candidates for temporary custody because the child has mainly lived with them, and her mother has passed away. They note that the alleged father, Richard Marreo-Campos, who is not listed on the birth certificate, passed away seven years ago without establishing paternity or providing child support. Despite Bobbi Jean entrusting her daughter to Yvette Rodriguez before her death, Yvette, who had minimal contact with the child, is unwilling to release her to Jane and Gregory.

Yvette is now opposing Jane’s petition, and a court date is scheduled for March 15, 2024, to decide custody. Jane’s filing highlights that the child has spent significant time with the grandparents over the past year, having her own room with all her belongings at their home.
Although lacking written documentation, Jane requests temporary custody until their granddaughter turns 18 or is no longer dependent, arguing it’s in the child’s best interest due to her close bond with them and stable living arrangement.
A temporary order has been granted, and the child is now living with the Carter family, with a hearing scheduled in March to consider a permanent order. Yvette, claiming to be a “paternal aunt,” has filed a motion to intervene and challenge the temporary custody orders, stating that the child had been living with her since last August and was taken from her custody when Jane and the Carter family were granted temporary custody.
