In a candid interview on the People Everyday Podcast, Blige shared that Isaacs repeatedly told her she was “done” and “washed up” in the music industry. “I was told I was fat and old and my fans were old and they did not like me anymore,” Blige recounted.
These damaging comments, Blige admitted, made her question her own worth. “I began to believe him,” she said. “I wanted to throw in the towel.”
However, the Grammy-winning singer credited her fans for saving her from that dark period. “I had to push through and believe in my subconscious for the sake of my die-hard fans,” Blige emphasized.
Blige and Isaacs’ divorce was finalized in 2018 after a lengthy legal battle. Reflecting on their marriage, Blige described it as “toxic.”
