Recasting Jonathan Majors’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is apparently being considered by Marvel Studios, following his guilty sentence for assaulting his ex-girlfriend. But according to a new claim, Will Smith won’t be taken into consideration if the roles are recast since the studio executives allegedly “refuse” to cast him because of his own supposed “baggage.”

Due to his guilty verdict in an assault trial, Jonathan Majors left the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As a result, the studio must make a big decision regarding the position he left behind, especially for Kang the Conqueror, the upcoming main adversary. Having let Majors go from the project, reports suggest that Marvel is thinking about recasting the part.

With Jonathan Majors’ departure, a source said that Marvel is undergoing a major makeover for its next films and television series, particularly because of the importance of his character Kang to the upcoming story arc.

With reference to his own “baggage,” which is probably a reference to the contentious event at the 2022 Oscars where Smith slapped Chris Rock, the insider confirmed that Marvel had no intention of casting Will Smith, despite internet rumors suggesting Smith as a potential alternative.

“The Marvel team knows for sure they don’t want to replace baggage with more baggage,” the source added

The insider noted that even with the current situation, it would be difficult to cast Will Smith to replace Jonathan Majors because of the “baggage” that Smith is thought to have. Although Marvel was able to cast Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man when he wasn’t a big name, they pointed out that times have changed and that the opinions of fans play a significant role in the selection process. The insider confirmed that Majors will not be replaced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by Will Smith, even if discussions are still ongoing.

“It may have worked for Marvel when they cast Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man back in the day when he wasn’t the star he is today, but we are in a different world and who they cast and how it goes over with fans is a whole new ballgame,” the source said.

“They are going to figure it out, but Will Smith will not be the replacement,”
