Marlon Wayans Shares His Oldest Child Is Transgender

In a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, comedian and actor Marlon Wayans shared that his eldest child is transgender

Marlon Wayans revealed in an interview with The Breakfast Club that he is working on a comedy stand-up special called “Either Skittles or Rainbow Child,” which will explore his feelings regarding Kai’s transition and coming out.

“I have a daughter that transitioned into a son. My daughter Amai is now Kai, and so I talk about the transition, not her, his…their transition but my transition as a parent, going from complete ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance”, Marlon shared.

“[Kai’s transition] was very painful for me. But they know that I love her, and they see me trying and that I am happy”.

Marlon jokingly mentioned: “It just messes me up when I say ‘they’, I’m like there’s two of you? But I have to respect their wishes”.

“I just want my kids to be free. I want them to be free in spirit, free in thought, free to be themselves. The more you know yourself, the more you can govern yourself; the more you live your truth, the happier your existence. So, if they can’t get in the household with their father and mother, who do I send them out into the world with that kind of confidence?”, the comedian expressed.

Marlon joked: “And I’m just so proud of them for being them, but that don’t mean that they ain’t got jokes!”.

Wayans has two sons, Kai and Shawn, with his ex-partner Angela Zackery. Although they were in a long-term relationship from 1992 to 2013, they were never married.
