Jada Pinkett Smith Reveals What Chris Rock Said to Her After Will Smith Slap
During a performance, famous comedian Chris Rock made a joke about Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Will was offended by the joke to such an extent that he stormed onto the platform and gave Chris a hard smack.
Following the incident, Will apologized and faced consequences from the Academy. Meanwhile, Chris has included the incident in his comedy shows. Now, Jada is sharing her perspective on what happened during the slap for the first time.
In promoting her new memoir, “Worthy,” Jada had a one-on-one interview with TODAY’s Hoda Kotb. Hoda discussed the slap incident and delved into other revelations from Jada’s book. One key disclosure is that in 2016, Jada and Will chose to live apart, though they never officially divorced. Jada clarified, saying, “We haven’t called each other husband and wife in a long time.”
During the Oscars incident, when Will slapped Chris and said, “keep my wife’s name out of your mouth,” Jada Pinkett was surprised by the mention of her as his wife. She confessed to being “worried for Will” at that moment, not fully grasping what caused his aggressive reaction.

It’s interesting that after Will had gone back to his seat, Chris attempted to speak with Jada from the stage, something that television watchers missed. Despite Chris’s best efforts to apologize to Jada, this just served to enrage Will further. Chris spoke to Jada, “Jada, I meant no harm,” according to Jada.
In a following video, Jada Pinkett talks more about her reaction to Will slapping Chris and explains why she thinks she was unfairly portrayed as the villain. After Chris apologized to Jada at the Oscars, she told him, “Chris, this is about some old sh**.” It seems connected to the fact that Chris once asked Jada out on a date while she was still married to Will.
Despite living separately since 2016, Will and Jada maintained a public image of a happy marriage. However, there were occasional rumors about their divorce, and in one instance, Chris reached out to Jada upon hearing such rumors.
