Lady Gaga is moving to have a lawsuit filed by Jennifer McBride dismissed. McBride, who was previously arrested and charged in connection with the theft of two French bulldogs belonging to the singer, had returned the dogs in February 2021.
However, she now claims that Lady Gaga deceived her into surrendering the pets by promising no consequences. Gaga’s legal team argues that McBride was actually involved in the conspiracy to steal the animals, as reported by ABC 7.
In court documents presented to Judge Holly J. Fujie, Lady Gaga’s attorneys assert that McBride is attempting to profit from her participation in a criminal act, which is not permitted by law. The crux of the disagreement revolves around Lady Gaga’s reward offer of $500,000 for the safe return of her stolen dogs.
Lady Gaga’s legal representatives state that the singer announced a reward on Twitter just two days after the theft of her dogs took place. Subsequently, Jennifer McBride brought the pets to the Los Angeles Police Department, claiming to be a good Samaritan who happened to find them on the street. However, Gaga’s lawyers argue that McBride was an active and aware participant in the criminal act.

McBride arrested
McBride was later arrested, pleaded no contest to receiving stolen property, and received two years of probation. Gaga’s attorney maintains that McBride knowingly accepted the stolen dogs and then attempted to “return” them, all while denying any intention of claiming the reward she now insists she deserves. Gaga asserts that her financial pledge became null and void upon discovering McBride’s involvement in the scheme.
McBride has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court, seeking to obtain the $500,000 reward. However, Lady Gaga’s legal team is striving to have the case dismissed, arguing that McBride should not be permitted to profit from her role in the crime. The judge will now assess the arguments presented by both parties before reaching a decision on the lawsuit.
