Jonathan Majors Cries in Court as Domestic Violence Trial Comes to a Close

Jonathan Majors cried as his lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, delivered closing arguments in his domestic assault trial. The Creed III actor is facing assault charges for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. Chaudhry vigorously contested the case, claiming it was founded on Jabbari’s lies.

She claimed that Jabbari’s emotional nature blurred the lines between lies and feelings, accusing her of destroying lives with her fantasies. Chaudhry chastised the prosecutors for accepting Jabbari’s lies in the case, from minor to major.

Chaudhry further argued, “If you believe Grace, then despite Jonathan Majors warning her about the dangers of a Black man involving the police in America, he supposedly assaulted her severely in a car registered in his name, and then he himself called 911.”

Providing details from Majors’ perspective, Chaudhry stated, “If you believe Grace, then Jonathan caused these injuries, and then he told the 911 operator about her injuries, and then he told the cops who showed up at his apartment that they had an argument the night before.

“You probably have your own list of the greatest lies that Grace has ever told you,” the defense attorney quipped before urging the jurors: “I want to end this nightmare for Jonathan now, immediately, and as quickly as possible. It’s just fake. Nothing she says makes sense. Nothing she says is medically possible.”

During the trial, Majors broke down in tears when Chaudhry revealed, “His fear of what happens when a Black man in America calls 911 came true. And now we’re here.” Chaudhry’s voice trembled as she concluded, “You are here to end this nightmare for Jonathan Majors. You are here to see what is obvious, what this evidence shows. Jonathan Majors is innocent.” After her closing argument, Chaudhry and Majors shared an emotional embrace.

The trial, which began on December 4, featured opening statements from Chaudhry and prosecutor Michael Perez. They presented conflicting accounts of an intense cab ride that led to Majors’ arrest in Manhattan in March. The incident reportedly escalated after Jabbari discovered a text on Majors’ phone from someone named Cleopatra.

The ADA claimed that Majors engaged in a “cruel and manipulative pattern of psychological and physical abuse,” leading to the end of their relationship, but Chaudhry argued that the case was not about a crime committed by Majors. She contended that Majors was the one injured in the dispute with Jabbari.

Jabbari testified during the trial, detailing instances of Majors’ alleged aggressive behavior, including an incident where he purportedly threw a candle at her, causing damage to the wall. She also presented text messages from Majors, threatening suicide if she sought medical attention for a head injury from a previous dispute in September 2022. Majors’ 911 call the day after the March incident, where he found Jabbari unconscious and described it as a possible suicide attempt, was also released.

The Messenger reported earlier that Jabbari faced charges of third-degree domestic assault and criminal mischief seven months after Majors’ arrest, but the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office decided not to pursue these charges against her, as confirmed by Majors’ legal team. Majors, through his attorney Chaudhry, has consistently denied all allegations made by Jabbari.
