It has been reported by box office reports that Johnny Depp, who has had an incredible career, has a role where another actor’s performance is thought to be better.

Gene Wilder played the iconic Willy Wonka in the 1971 film “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” which marked the beginning of the Willy Wonka film series. The Mel Stuart-directed picture, which was based on Roald Dahl’s novel, did not become a commercial success right away, but it did develop a cult following over time. Gene Wilder’s portrayal of the eccentric chocolatier became a beloved classic after receiving widespread praise.

Johnny Depp portrays Willy Wonka in Tim Burton’s 2005 rendition of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which grossed $475 million amid mixed reviews. Now, Timothée Chalamet stars in Wonka, directed by Paul King, narrating Willy Wonka’s genesis story as an aspiring magician, inventor, and chocolatier.

The story follows Noodle (Calah Lane), an appealing orphan who becomes Wonka’s constant companion on their amazing adventure. They elicit sympathy from the audience, with Wonka carrying the final chocolate bar created by his jungle-dwelling candy-maker mother as a source of inspiration.

The movie introduces three powerful businessmen who control candy manufacturing and distribution, manipulating the city’s corrupt police force. With Wonka now officially grossing $500 million at the box office, it has surpassed Johnny Depp’s version. SK Pop reported that Timothée Chalamet’s film achieved this impressive milestone within months of its release on December 8, 2023, compared to Depp’s film, which took a whole year to reach a similar number in the past.

The film has made an impressive $176.2 million in the United States and an astounding $329.1 million globally, showcasing its success as more than just an enchanting story. Chalamet, without seeking advice from Johnny Depp, took on the role in his own way, which has proven successful.

Wonka is expected to be available for digital purchase around February 2024, and being a Warner Bros. production, it will eventually be on Max, likely streaming by March 2024.
