Johnny Depp Earns $68 Million from Disney for Seven Minute Performance
In the past, Johnny Depp was the highest-paid actor in Hollywood and was well-known in the movie business. But due to his domestic abuse issues with his ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp is noticeably missing from the big-budget film scene, which has altered the landscape of Hollywood.
Disney may not be spending $300 million to reunite Johnny Depp for Pirates of the Caribbean 6, but in the early days of their wildly popular live-action franchise, the entertainment giant did pay out almost $68 million for a seven-minute appearance.
As Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland came to a close in 2010, Johnny Depp wrapped off his Disney career as the Mad Hatter. As Captain Jack Sparrow in the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films from 2003 to 2007, which were a huge hit and produced one of the most iconic characters in movie history, his link with Disney seemed inevitable. Disney was taken aback by how well-liked Depp’s character turned out.
With Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, and Matt Lucas as Tweedledee and Tweedledum, Johnny Depp starred in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.

Apart from that, Stephen Fry and Alan Rickman provided the voices of the Cheshire Cat and Caterpillar, respectively, and Michael Sheen played the White Rabbit. Having made an astounding $1 billion in revenue, the movie was a huge hit.
As one of Hollywood’s highest-paid performers, Johnny Depp was rewarded a significant £50 million (about $68 million) by Disney for his seven-minute role in Alice in Wonderland. It’s unclear if Disney will pay Depp the same in the future despite the success given his legal issues.
It is unlikely that the actor will rejoin Disney after losing both his defamation trial in 2022 and his libel trial in 2020. Even if Disney is still hesitant following Depp’s first $300 million demand, reports indicate that Depp may think about playing Jack Sparrow again in a hypothetical sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film.
