Jada Pinkett Smith Blames Will Smith Fans for Her Character Assassination
Will Smith slapped host Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards over a joke about his wife Jada Smith’s shaved head.
Online debate and criticism over this slap was intense. Talk turned to Will Smith’s explanation that he did it to defend his loved ones when he went on to win the Best Actor award later in the evening.
Jada Smith didn’t like her husband’s act, thinking it was a skit. Some blamed the actor, while his fans said it was all Jada’s fault. The Collateral actress has spoken about the incident and how people pointed fingers at her.
“It was ridiculous in how far it went. But I also understood at the same time. Considering the false narrative that I had cheated on Will or I was like some adulteress, Will had never done that before. And I think that when we just look at human nature… when you look at the breadcrumbs, people need something to blame.”

“And so people not knowing what was happening behind the scenes, I surely wasn’t surprised that I got blamed. But I understood that that’s just the human nature of it all.”

“I thought, ‘This is a skit.’ I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him. It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realized it wasn’t a skit.”
She was so taken aback by the entire thing that she asked the Men in Black actor, “Are you okay?” right after the performance. Following his 10-year ban from the organization, Will Smith apologized to Chris Rock in public and said he had simply “lost it.” Rock, meanwhile, didn’t address it until his March standup special, “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage.”
