Jada Pinkett Smith Affirms Lifelong Support for Will Smith”
With the goal of dispelling romanticized ideas of marriage and celebrity life, Jada Pinkett Smith sets out on a healing journey in her new memoir, “Worthy,” which offers insights into her union with Will Smith.
Further investigation was focused on their well-known marriage, which was made public by an Oscars incident in which Smith slapped Chris Rock for making a joke about Jada. The world was unaware that the couple was, quite surprisingly, separated at the time.
Jada Pinkett Smith mentioned that the details leading to the slap incident are “Will’s story,” but she suggested the event brought them closer. Reflecting on the 2022 Oscars, she shared, “I might not have entered as his wife, but I left that night as his wife. As I sit here today, I am going to be by his side always,” she told “CBS Mornings.”
Despite being seen as a power couple, the Smiths separated in 2016, a fact only revealed last month. Pinkett Smith explained the separation was necessary for her emotional growth and to dissolve misconceptions about marriage and personal roles.

Pinkett Smith clarified that Will’s decision to talk about the situation on the show was his own, and that it was inaccurate to call her an adulterous wife because they were not living together at the time. They are working toward a resolution and are officially still married, she told the Associated Press last month.
“We love each other…we are figuring out right now as we speak, what that looks like for us. But there’s no being separated. There’s no, ‘we’re going to get divorced,'” she told the AP. “I’m not giving up on that dude. And he’s not giving up on me… So, let’s just stop and let’s get to this deep healing and figure this out.”
Pinkett Smith reveals in her new book her tumultuous teenage years, marked by drug dealing and a quest for self-worth in a challenging environment. Despite projecting a facade of well-being for over two decades, she privately battled depression and hopelessness that she describes as turning into a “raging hellfire.”
Despite an outwardly perfect life, unresolved issues obscured her ability to see the positives. Reflecting on this, she shared with “CBS Mornings,” “I probably did have the perfect life. I just couldn’t see it because there was so much hurt and imperfection within me. I had to go through a long healing process to get to a place of joy and happiness.”
