Gabrielle Union has spoken candidly about her troubled past marriage to Chris Howard, revealing a relationship marked by infidelity and a lack of morals.
During a candid conversation on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, Union, 50, confessed to having a sense of justification for being unfaithful to Howard, 47, throughout their tumultuous five-year union, which lasted from 2001 to 2006.
“Neither one of us felt like the marriage should get in the way of our dating,” Union said. “I was paying all the bills, working hard, and felt like I could do whatever I wanted.”
A couples therapist told the couple they had “not one thing in common — no morals, no values, no scruples. The one thing you both have in common is other people.”
Union, now married to Dwyane Wade, confessed to seeking validation through her infidelity. “We were both crappy people going through s— and not clearly going to enough therapy,” she added.
This isn’t the first time Union has spoken out about her past. In November, she discussed her initial reluctance to play a religious, anti-LGBTQ mother in “The Inspection” with The Times.
Union, a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ community, shares a transgender daughter, Zaya, with Wade.
Howard has yet to comment on Union’s revelations.
