Ex-'SNL' Writer Kevin Brennan Mocks Matthew Perry's Death

Kevin Brennan, a former Saturday Night Live writer and comedian, sparked outrage over the weekend when he made a joke about Matthew Perry’s untimely death at the age of 54.

After the beloved Friends star died in a hot tub, most likely due to a cardiac arrest, Brennan made an insensitive remark about it.

“DROWNED IN A HOT TUB,” the struggling comic and podcast host wrote alongside an article announcing Perry’s death. “HAHAHAHA.”

“Why is drowning in a hot tub funny?” Kevin Brennan continued. “Because it’s not very deep.”

Brennan continued to make fun of the late 54-year-old Friends star’s death after TMZ covered his insensitive remarks.

“I didn’t mock it,” he wrote. “I just thought it was funny. But I do love it when junkies die.”

Perry died on Saturday afternoon at his Los Angeles home, with investigators suspecting he drowned in his hot tub due to a cardiac arrest.

First responders and LAPD officers were dispatched to his home to conduct a death investigation. An autopsy was performed, and toxicology results are pending.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that no illegal drugs were present, but prescription medications were discovered. Perry’s body is being prepared for burial.

Perry struggled with drug and alcohol addiction for many years before his death at the age of 54. In his new memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” the Friends actor opened up about his long battle with substance abuse.

He revealed a near-death experience in 2018 when his colon burst due to opioid addiction. Perry also revealed that he fell into a coma for two weeks and had to stay in the hospital for five months as a result.
