Diddy recently discussed his most recent record, “The Love Album: Off The Grid,” in an interview and recounted a life-changing incident. After writing a song in memory of his late partner Kim Porter, who unfortunately passed away in 2018, he revealed that she visited him in a dream.
Diddy revealed that the track “Kim Porter” was inspired by an emotional occasion when he stumbled upon a snapshot of himself and Porter. He was inspired to create the song by this intense interaction because it gave him a way to express his feelings and recall their time together.
Porter was unable to hear the song’s featured artists, Babyface and John Legend, so he requested them to sing to the heavens above so that he could. As Porter paid the 53-year-old in his fantasies, according to Diddy, Babyface and Legend allegedly did just that.
“I got with Babyface, and I really told him the story of me and Kim, and I showed him this picture, and I said, ‘Babyface, I know your voice will penetrate the heavens above. I need you to sing this song to Kim, and I need her to hear it so she can come and visit me in my dreams,’ and that’s the story I really told him,”

“And we started writing the song, and I was like, ‘I feel like I really want to make sure she gets the message’ and I call John Legend, and I was like, ‘John, I need you to sing to the heavens above’ and that’s how we got ‘Kim Porter.’ And she has come and visited me in my dreams. So I have, you know, been able to live the best of both worlds.”
Kim Porter’s unfortunate death in 2018 was attributed to lobar pneumonia, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. Periods of being on and off defined Diddy and Porter’s relationship. They welcomed Christian Combs, now 20 years old, and twins D’Lila and Jessie Combs, who are now 11 years old.
