Comedian Keith Robinson reveals getting stroke after taking Viagra

Comedian Keith Robinson disclosed that he took an unexpected dose of Viagra just before suffering a serious stroke in 2020.

In a new Netflix special shot at Sony Hall, comedian Keith Robinson will tell this story and others. Comedy luminaries including Wanda Sykes and Amy Schumer were present for the event, which is slated for release in early 2024. Robinson’s problems began as he was traveling to Phoenix to meet up with an old girlfriend.

“Now I am drinking and drinking on the flight — first class of course — and I am a little hammered,” Robinson recalled in a slow drawl. He “popped a Viagra” 20 minutes before landing.

Keith Robinson, who had a smaller stroke in 2016, felt symptoms during landing but chose to skip medical help for his original plan. Recalling his thoughts, he said, “Should I go to the hospital and live or try to get laid.” Unfortunately, his condition worsened with his arm and leg affected, and the only thing still working was from the Viagra. He didn’t seek medical attention until the following day.

Viagra itself doesn’t increase the risk of stroke, but there are stories of strokes occurring after taking Viagra while heavily drinking. After a near-fatal stroke, Keith Robinson faced years of recovery, but in early 2023, he started returning to New York City’s comedy scene.

The Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village, where he frequents, even added railings for him to get on stage. Comedy Cellar owner Noam Dworman shared, “He’s learned to talk about it on stage, and I would say he’s stronger now than he has ever been in his whole career.”
