Anthony Mackie recently spoke out about the assault charge involving his fellow Marvel actor Jonathan Majors. In March, Majors, who is 33 years old, was arrested in Manhattan on charges of assault and aggravated harassment following an alleged domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman.
In an interview with Inverse on Wednesday, Mackie, known for his role in Avengers: Endgame, became the first Marvel star to publicly acknowledge the allegations against Majors, who was slated to portray the formidable antagonist Kang the Conqueror in several forthcoming films.
“We’re a country that was built on ‘everyone is innocent until proven guilty,'” Mackie said. “That’s one of the staples of this country.

Nothing has been proven about this dude. Nothing. So everyone is innocent until proven guilty. That’s all I can say. It’s crazy where we are as a society. But as a country, everyone is innocent until proven guilty.”
Since his debut as Sam Wilson/The Falcon in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie has been an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). His character journey has led him to assume the iconic mantle of Captain America in the upcoming 2024 film, Brave New World. On the other hand, Jonathan Majors entered the MCU through the 2021 TV series Loki and further showcased his talent in the 2023 movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Throughout the ordeal stemming from the incident in March, Majors has consistently asserted his innocence. Recently, he took action by filing a domestic violence complaint against his ex-girlfriend, the individual who accused him of assault, alleging that she was the aggressor in the altercation.
3rd August set for trial
The legal proceedings regarding the assault charges are set to commence in New York on August 3rd. It is during this trial that Majors will have the opportunity to present his side of the story and defend himself against the accusations.
Anthony Mackie, who has worked alongside Majors in the MCU, broke the silence surrounding these allegations during an interview with Inverse. As the first Marvel star to publicly address the matter, Mackie’s statement carries significance within the industry and among fans.
Mackie’s journey in the MCU has been noteworthy, beginning as a supporting character and eventually taking on the mantle of Captain America. This upcoming role not only solidifies his status as a key figure in the franchise but also highlights the importance of diversity and representation within superhero narratives.
As the legal process unfolds, it remains to be seen how the outcome will impact Majors’ career and future involvement in the MCU. The trial will provide a platform for both parties to present their arguments and for justice to be served.
The Marvel community and fans alike will be eagerly awaiting the trial’s conclusion, hoping for a fair and just resolution to the matter. Until then, the focus remains on the upcoming projects in the MCU and the remarkable performances of actors like Mackie and Majors, who continue to captivate audiences with their talent and dedication to their respective roles.
