Ed Sheeran’s cherished grandmother, who inspired his chart-topping song “Nancy Mulligan,” has passed away, leaving the singer heartbroken.
Anne Mary, also known as Nancy Sheeran, but originally named Mulligan, passed away peacefully at Castle Gardens Nursing Home in Enniscorthy, Republic of Ireland, last Tuesday. Ed, aged 32, composed the song for his third album, Divide, which was released in 2017. The song narrates the tale of Anne’s love story with Ed’s grandfather, William, despite their contrasting religious backgrounds.
