Willow reflects on new song’s effect on relationship with mom Jada Pinkett-Smith
“Alone,” a new song by Willow Smith, is one of her most intimate compositions. She valued her relationships—especially her relationship with her mother, Jada Pinkett-Smith—and learned to appreciate her emotions by embracing her solitude during its creation.
Writing “Alone” inspired Willow to prioritize compassion even more, she said, as she considered her relationship with her mother.
“I really started loving her with so much more tenderness and way less expectations, which allowed her to see me differently and to love me differently,” she said
The singer acknowledged that she relied heavily on her earlier songs for emotional support.
“During that time, emotionally, I was going through so much,” she said of her past releases.
“There was so much resentment. There was so much need to just express myself. And those two albums helped me get it out.”
Willow’s most recent interview comes after Jada revealed to People magazine in October that she and Will had previously separated before her husband and comedian Chris Rock got into an altercation at the Oscars.

Later, she made an appearance on the Today show, where she discussed the couple’s attempts to mend their relationship, which furthered the story.
On October 16, Jada talked about how hard it is to find a similar love and appreciated all the effort going into their relationship’s rehabilitation on the Today show.
Following these developments, a source claimed that Will is thinking about getting a divorce because he feels let down and embarrassed by his wife’s disclosures to the public about their personal lives and the Oscars incident.
Following Jada’s candid revelations in a book release and multiple interviews, the well-known pair—who had previously been the subject of rumors of a split and a seven-year break—have been attempting to get back together.
Will seemed surprised by how open his wife was about their issues, according to a Heat Magazine insider. The same insider said that Jada hadn’t talked to anyone about her prior public remarks regarding their relationship with Will, which supposedly made the King Richard star feel undercut.
