During an interview with The Breakfast Club, Will Smith recently discussed his feelings about Tupac and his then-girlfriend Jada’s friendship.

Jada Pinkett-Smith talked candidly about her intimate friendship with the late rapper Tupac Shakur, calling him not just a friend but also a confidant, a father figure, and a brother who genuinely cared for her. Given that they both attended the Baltimore School for the Arts in Maryland for high school, Will believes Tupac harbored deep affections for Jada.

It’s understandable that The Fresh Prince felt some jealousy, even though everyone insisted that Jada and Tupac’s relationship was platonic. Smith acknowledged in a Breakfast Club interview that he wasn’t man enough to speak to Tupac and expressed regret about not making things right between them, saying, “That was a big regret for me too because I could never open up to interact with Pac.”

The actor said there was no communication between them, saying, “It was like I never could even, we were in the room together a couple of times.”

Jada had been telling Will for years that he and Tupac were a lot alike, Will admitted that “I was deeply, deeply insecure, and I wasn’t man enough to handle that relationship.
