Will Smith recalls the biggest failure in his acting career
Will Smith is preparing for “I Am Legend 2,” a follow-up to the 2007 movie that gives him a second chance to make amends for his past transgressions and to uphold Richard Matheson’s original ending.
Despite his award-winning performance in “King Richard,” Smith’s Oscar-related scandal nearly led to his blacklisting, thus his appearance in “I Am Legend 2” is critical to his Hollywood return. Since the protagonist dies in a different way at the end of the first novel, the sequel attempts to make up for the theatrical finish.
One role that deeply affected Will Smith wasn’t the Oscars incident or his relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith, but rather his performance in ‘After Earth’, a film that didn’t resonate with audiences as his other timeless movies did.
The actor known for “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” hasn’t worked with his son since then, as the younger Smith appears to be focusing on his music career above acting.

“Wild Wild West was less painful than After Earth,” Smith said to media. “Because my son was involved in After Earth, and I brought him into it. That was excruciating.
“I stopped working for a year and a half, and I had to immerse myself in why it was so important to have number one movies at the box office. I had never looked at myself that way.”
