Will Smith explains why he will never give up on Jada
Will Smith is commenting on the complex reactions to the revelations of his marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith that were included in her just-released memoir, “Worthy.”
Prior to the publication of the book, Pinkett Smith revealed that she and Smith, who exchanged vows in 1997, have been living apart for seven years in an exclusive interview with TODAY’s Hoda Kotb on NBC News.
At a book-related event on October 18 at Baltimore, Maryland’s Enoch Pratt Library, Pinkett Smith’s hometown, Smith made an unexpected appearance. Along with Smith’s son Trey, his kids Jaden and Willow also made surpise debuts, much to the pleasure of the audience.
“Can you love somebody forever no matter what?” he asks, to applause. Smith then quips that he saw a person in the audience whose face indicated that it was a high bar to reach.

“Can you show up and love somebody for the rest of your life even when you don’t agree with them?” Smith asks.
Smith and Pinkett Smith can be seen standing next to one other on stage in video from the event.
Smith clarifies that he has taken this position in his connection with Pinkett Smith.
“Jada is the best friend I have ever had on this planet, and I am going to show up for her and support her for the rest of my life,” he says.
On October 17, Pinkett Smith reassured viewers during an appearance on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna that it’s okay if they feel betrayed after knowing the truth about her marriage.
“They can feel betrayed and that’s OK because life is messy and so is marriage and, unfortunately, it’s not anybody’s business what’s going on in the most inner sanctum of our house,” she told Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager, adding, “We can’t live for other people.”
