At the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Will Smith talked about his personal life and his highs and lows. In an interview with TV host Raya Abirached, the 55-year-old actor seemed at ease discussing his recent struggles and stressed the importance of growing from mistakes.
Will Smith openly acknowledged making numerous mistakes, including the infamous Oscars slap of Chris Rock and the public challenges in his marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith, who disclosed their separation since 2016.
Applause and cheers were heard as Will Smith’s career highlight reel opened the In Conversation session at the Vox Cinema complex at Red Sea Mall.
Smith, wearing brown slacks and a red long sleeve shirt, greeted the crowd with hugs and high fives as she entered the theater to raucous applause. He mentioned during the session that he received help from Quincy Jones, whom he described as a reliable mentor and advisor, in order to resolve some of his problems.

‘Quincy has always made himself available,’ Smith said, before adding, ‘He wants me to win as a human. He is devoted to me as a human, not just as an artist.’
Reflecting on his life, Will Smith, at times confessional and sometimes self-deprecating, contemplated the impact of fame since his start as a rap star in the late 1980s. His journey expanded to TV stardom with “The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air” in 1990, acting as a catalyst for his shift into becoming a top A-list leading man in film.
‘Fame is a unique monster and I’ve had to be really careful,’
‘You can’t get excited when everybody is saying good things about you because the more you take when people are saying good things, the more hurt you’re going to be when people are saying bad things about you.’
He added, ‘I have to be clear about who I am and what I am attempting to do in the world. And I can’t need others to applaud for me to stay focused on my mission. I want you to feel good. And at the same time, I am deeply human. And I am in the process of perfecting my virtue.’
Jada Pinkett Smith announced last month that she has no plans to divorce Will, confirming their separation since 2016. At an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, the host remarked that it seemed like the actress and the Oscar winner were planning to be together forever, despite the revelation in her memoir “Worthy,” which the 52-year-old actress expressed.
