Wendy Williams diagnosed with aphasia and dementia
Representatives for former talk show host Wendy Williams have disclosed that she has been diagnosed with progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, aiming to address rumors and provide accurate information about her health.
The statement mentions that Williams has previously been open about her struggles with Graves’ Disease and Lymphedema, along with other health challenges. Concerns have arisen over the years regarding Williams’ ability to process information, leading to speculation about her condition, especially as she began experiencing difficulties with language and understanding financial matters.
According to her representatives, Wendy Williams received her diagnoses of aphasia and dementia from Weill Cornell Medicine in 2023, conditions that affect communication, personality, and language understanding, as stated by the Mayo Clinic. The decision to disclose this news was challenging but made to advocate for understanding and compassion for Williams and to raise awareness about these conditions.

CNN has reached out to Williams’ care team for further comments. Currently, Williams is under a court-ordered guardianship, and a Lifetime documentary produced by Williams and her family is set to release soon. CNN has contacted Williams’ family and Lifetime for comments. Williams hosted “The Wendy Williams Show” until 2022, after which Sherri Shepherd took over her time slot. Her absence during the show’s 13th season, attributed to her recovery from COVID-19, led to the show’s end.

Williams began her career in radio and became well-known for her razor-sharp humor and unvarnished interviews, even if her open style occasionally sparked controversy in the entertainment sector.
