Trouble Continues at Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Company
Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s media company, Westbrook, is making significant cuts as part of a larger restructuring effort, scaling back its digital media operations to focus on television, film, and entertainment marketing projects for Westbrook Studios. This decision comes after the company declined offers to sell itself for approximately $600 million.
Last week, Westbrook announced plans to reorient its business, with the president and COO leaving the company and 26 employees being laid off. Despite these changes, the company’s head of film and head of TV will continue to oversee ongoing projects, including collaborations with major streamers and studios on projects like Bad Boys 4, I Am Legend 2, Bel Aire, and Cobra Kai.

Westbrook, like many other celebrity-driven media companies, expanded quickly during the recent years as tech and media companies competed to create popular streaming services. However, since Will Smith’s altercation with Chris Rock at the Oscars in March 2022, Westbrook has faced challenges, struggling to secure significant deals with streaming platforms and entertainment giants.
This has led to a scaling back of its digital media goals. Additionally, controversial decisions by company leaders to withdraw funds have worsened its financial situation.
