Actor Treat Williams, known for his extensive career spanning nearly five decades, including notable roles in the television series Everwood and the film Hair, has tragically passed away following a motorcycle accident in Vermont.

As per an official statement by the Vermont State Police, the incident occurred in the town of Dorset when a Honda SUV made a left turn into a parking lot, colliding with Williams’s motorcycle. The collision took place shortly before 5 pm on Monday, ultimately claiming the life of the esteemed actor.

“Williams was unable to avoid a collision and was thrown from his motorcycle. He suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to Albany Medical Centre in Albany, New York, where he was pronounced dead,” a police spokesperson said.

The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization. Despite signaling the turn, the driver was not immediately detained as the crash investigation is still ongoing, according to the police.

The deceased individual, Richard Treat Williams, resided in Manchester Centre, located in southern Vermont, as confirmed by the police. His agent, Barry McPherson, verified the actor’s passing.

Born in Connecticut, Williams began his acting career in 1975 with the role of a police officer in Deadly Hero. He went on to accumulate over 120 TV and film credits, including notable works such as The Eagle Has Landed, Prince of the City, and Once Upon a Time in America.

In recognition of his portrayal as the hippie leader George Berger in the 1979 movie adaptation of the popular musical Hair, Williams received a Golden Globe Award nomination.

While he made appearances in numerous television shows, Williams gained significant recognition for his leading role as Dr. Andrew Brown in Everwood, a series that aired from 2002 to 2006. In the show, Dr. Brown, a widowed brain surgeon from Manhattan, relocates with his two children to the Colorado mountain town bearing the same name.
