Tracy Morgan and Nas Break Down to tears After Learning they Are Related
After learning on the television program Finding Your Roots that he and rapper Nas were distant cousins connected by their ancestors’ enslavement, comedian Tracy Morgan burst into tears.
The comedian on the Connect the Dots podcast claims that in addition to being longtime friends, he and the rapper Nas, best known for the song “World is Ours,” are also relatively close third cousins on his mother’s side.
He learned of this connection while perusing the program Finding Your Roots. Morgan talked about their close relationship over the years and said he told Nas about the familial connection through his late mother, and Nas became emotional.

“I called him up, and I say, ‘Yo Esco.’ He said, ‘What up Tray?’ And I said, ‘I just did Finding Your Roots. Me and you related,” Morgan continues. “He started crying, I started crying. And I said to him, ‘If you ever need me, I’m there, Cuz.’ He said, ‘Cuz, if you ever need me, I’m there.’”
The comedian on Find Your Roots revealed that he traced his ancestry 400 years back to the slave ship that carried his great-grandfather, who was born five times over, to America. When Nas, who appeared on the same program in 2014, had his genealogy looked up, a bill of sale for one of his ancestors was found.
He made new family connections through the show. When Nas’s family tree was investigated, it was discovered that Pocahontas, his third great-grandmother, had been sold for $830 as a 15-year-old slave in 1859.
When the rapper saw a picture of the slave owner who had purchased her and saw that Pocahontas and his three times great-grandfather, Calvin, were married, he expressed his anguish.
