Simone Biles becomes the most decorated gymnast of all time
Simone Biles has reclaimed the top spot on the international gymnastics stage less than three months after making a comeback to competitive gymnastics.
Biles had a tiny slip-up in her floor routine after a generally faultless performance, but she still won the individual all-around title at the world championships, making it six times in a row.
Given that she took a break from her career to pursue her mental health after the Tokyo Olympics, just two years previously, this victory seals her place as the most decorated gymnast in history.
This achievement was sufficient to cause some sobs during the medal ceremony in Antwerp, even for an athlete who has reached the top step of the world championship podium an incredible 21 times.

It’s a particularly poignant moment for Biles because she began her illustrious title-winning journey in this Belgian city at the tender age of 16 ten years ago, making it a special place for her.
With a stellar total of 58.399 points earned on the balance beam, floor, vault, and uneven bars, Biles outperformed Rebeca Andrade of Brazil, the reigning champion, by a significant margin of 1.633 points. Shilese Jones, a fellow American and Biles’ countrywoman, won the bronze medal with a total of 56.332 points.
With this triumph, Biles now has a whopping 27 medals from the global championships, 21 of which are gold. It happened only 48 hours after the four-time Olympic gold champion guided the American ladies to an unheard-of seventh straight triumph in the team competition.
