In 2016, Kim Kardashian was tied up and robbed at gunpoint in a Paris hotel. The robbers stole about $10 million worth of jewelry, including her $4 million diamond engagement ring from Kanye West. The robbery left her traumatized, and her life has not been the same since, said her best friend and stylist, Simone Harouche, in court.

Harouche, 45, spoke publicly for the first time about that night. She said she was woken by Kim’s terrified screams and feared they would both be killed. She hid in the bathroom, scared that Kim was being raped. Harouche cried in court as she remembered fearing she would never see her children again.

Kim had her ankles taped. After the robbers left, she came hopping down the stairs in a bathrobe, frightened and shaken. She kept saying they needed to escape before the attackers returned.

Harouche said both women had post-traumatic stress after the attack. She described Kim as someone who used to feel safe and free, but now lives more cautiously. Harouche also said Kim went through therapy to recover.

When asked if Kim’s social media posts made her a target, Harouche replied that wearing jewelry doesn’t make someone responsible for being robbed. She compared that idea to blaming a woman’s clothes for sexual assault.

Ten men are now on trial in Paris for the robbery. Some deny being involved, while others are accused of helping to plan it. Some are older and have been called the “grandpa robbers” by the media.

Kim Kardashian is expected to attend the trial. Her lawyers say she is ready to face the men who attacked her and will do so with strength and dignity.
