R&B Singer Khalid Confirms That He is Gay, Says “I Am Not Ashamed”

Khalid is speaking openly about his sexuality, affirming his happiness and self-acceptance after being outed on social media. In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) this past Friday, the singer confirmed he is gay, responding to the situation with grace and humor.

“🏳️‍🌈!!! there y’all go. Next topic please lol,” Khalid initially wrote, using the LGBTQ pride flag emoji. When a fan asked for confirmation, he replied, “I am [gay]! And that’s okay.” He followed up with, “I got outed and the world still continues to turn. Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality, it ain’t nobody’s business! But I am okay with me 🖤.”

According to Rolling Stone, the posts came after X user Hugo Almonte accused an unnamed “gay R&B singer” of offering him drugs and attempting to frame him for breaking into his home. Almonte, who has fewer than 750 monthly listeners on his own music platforms, shared a photo with Khalid alongside a string of accusations, claiming the singer tried to use his influence to silence him after their relationship ended.
Khalid has not directly addressed Almonte’s allegations but responded to one fan who suggested his sexuality was obvious. “I wasn’t hiding anything!” Khalid wrote. “It’s just not any of your business.” His measured response resonated with fans who applauded his handling of the situation.

In a statement to Rolling Stone, Almonte defended his actions, claiming he had been holding onto these accusations for five years before deciding to share them. He alleged he has since received death threats and criticized those accusing him of seeking clout. “It’s crazy that people said I was chasing clout when I’ve been silent about this for years,” he said.
While Khalid’s team has yet to respond publicly, the R&B star has received an outpouring of support from fans and fellow artists. Producers MNEK and Amorphous were among those who condemned Almonte’s posts. Amorphous wrote on X, “Your music can barely allow you to afford a small fry at Jack in the Box and you’re pressed about outing someone who has three diamond records. Y’all are not the same, babes.”
Khalid’s candid response and the widespread support he’s received highlight the resilience of his fanbase and his standing as a beloved artist in the LGBTQ and music communities.
