R. Kelly Hits Back At $10.5 Million Judgment In Lawsuit
R. Kelly, facing well-known legal issues, may be unaware of a potential $10.5 million judgment in a lawsuit filed against him and his alleged former manager, Donnell Russell. Six women claim they resorted to a mass shooting threat to shut down a New York City screening of the documentary series “Surviving R. Kelly” in December 2018, leading to the lawsuit. Despite the legal proceedings, Kelly argues that he should not be held responsible for the sum.
R. Kelly, who is presently serving time in a North Carolina prison, has claimed in court records that he was not made aware of this particular lawsuit. He says it’s easy to become sidetracked with so many criminal and civil cases, and he’s hired new attorneys since being imprisoned. Kelly goes so far as to say that he might not have even received the complaint while incarcerated.

In court records, R. Kelly downplays Russell’s purported managerial position and highlights his dependence on lawyers to help him understand cases and paperwork. Kelly insists that if Russell had threatened to shoot him, it had not been done with his consent or knowledge and denies any role in any attempt to stop “Surviving R. Kelly” from being screened.
Kelly will have another chance to defend himself against the lawsuit when a judge decides whether the previous decision is still valid. That being said, collecting on the verdict might be difficult even if it stands.
