Fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise finally have an update on the long-anticipated sixth film. In a recent interview with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan, producer Jerry Bruckheimer shared that the next installment will bring a “new take” on the beloved series, while still including some returning characters.
Since the release of Dead Men Tell No Tales in 2017, the franchise’s future has been uncertain, especially following Johnny Depp’s departure amid his legal battle with Amber Heard. Depp, who famously portrayed Captain Jack Sparrow, previously stated he had no interest in returning. However, with his legal victory and ongoing fan support, speculation about his comeback continues to grow.
Bruckheimer confirmed that the script for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is still in development, but the team is committed to getting it right. “We’re working on a screenplay. Hopefully we’ll get it right and then we’ll make it,” he stated. His comments suggest a careful and deliberate approach to reviving the franchise with quality storytelling.
When asked about casting, Bruckheimer revealed, “Well, not all new actors. We’ll have some back,” hinting at the return of familiar characters. However, he kept specific names under wraps, adding an air of mystery to the project.

The upcoming film aims to blend a fresh narrative approach with elements that made the original series a global success. While it remains unclear whether Depp will return as Jack Sparrow, the producer’s hints about returning faces have reignited fan excitement.
After over seven years without a new film, and with renewed hope for Sparrow’s return, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is shaping up to be one of the most eagerly awaited reboots in Hollywood.
