Nelly Accuses Katt Williams of Stealing Joke From J.B. Smoove
Nelly, on a YouTube show with Cedric the Entertainer, accused Katt Williams of copying a joke from J.B. Smoove. Comedian Corey Holcomb also made this claim on a podcast, suggesting that many other comedians would agree.
The joke in question involves a song and its empowering effect, which Nelly asserts belongs to J.B. Smoove. Online videos support this, showing Smoove performing the joke on Def Comedy Jam in 1996, while another clip features Williams delivering a similar performance during his 2007 tour. Smoove has not commented on the alleged infringement.

In a separate incident, Katt Williams claimed that Cedric The Entertainer stole one of his jokes. Speaking on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay show, Williams recounted how Cedric had praised the joke when he saw Williams perform it at The Comedy Store. However, two years later, Cedric allegedly used the same joke as his closing act in Kings of Comedy, with minor alterations.
Williams emphasized the significance of the joke, stating that he had performed it twice on BET’s ComicView and it had become so popular that it was featured in a commercial. He described it as his best and final joke.
Cedric denied the accusation, asserting that his extensive career in over 40 movies and his own comedy specials spoke for themselves, regardless of Williams’ opinion.
