A mother from Australia faced criticism from online bullies after deciding to remove her baby’s facial birthmark with laser treatment, but she defended her choice, saying it was to benefit her child.

Port-wine stain birthmarks are typically harmless, but if they appear on the face, especially over the eye, they can be associated with conditions like glaucoma and Sturge-Weber Syndrome, which may lead to seizures, disabilities, and potential blindness.

Kingsley was diagnosed with both conditions. His mother Brooke, who also has a two-year-old named Amarni, explained that port-wine stains, caused by an overgrowth of blood vessels under the skin, are progressive and can darken over time due to a genetic mutation before birth, affecting around three in every 1,000 babies, with 65 percent appearing on the head or neck.

Treatment typically involves using lasers to lighten the mark’s dark color or applying special makeup to conceal it. However, if the stain progresses to a “cobblestone” appearance with raised bumps and ridges, laser treatment becomes less effective and more difficult. Despite this, Brooke opted for laser treatment for Kingsley’s mark, as it’s the only effective method for port-wine stains, aiming to maintain skin health and prevent further damage.

The family is undergoing treatment with Kingsley and finds him amazing every day, but Brooke faced criticism from trolls on TikTok who called her a ‘monster’ for choosing to treat the mark. One commenter questioned the decision, while another suggested the treatment was unnecessary
