Mariah Carey is grieving the loss of her mother, Patricia, and sister, Alison, who both died on the same day, according to TMZ.
“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend,” Mariah said in a statement. “Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
The singer added, “I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed.”
Mariah’s relationship with her mother was complicated, which she described as a “prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment” in her memoir.
Despite their rocky relationship, Mariah maintained a bond with her mother, dedicating part of her memoir to her.
Mariah’s relationship with her estranged sister, Alison, was more tumultuous, with Alison suing Mariah over abuse claims from her memoir.
The causes of death for Patricia and Alison are currently unknown.
Mariah concluded her statement, “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
