Lady Gaga’s choreographer is unhappy about the “toxic” allegations against him.

Lady Gaga’s choreographer, Richard ‘Richy’ Jackson, has responded to allegations of toxic behavior made by 10 of her dancers.

In a Rolling Stone article, he was accused of being abusive and using his authority to degrade staff members without justification. Breaking his silence on the matter, Jackson firmly maintains his innocence, stating that he did not engage in any wrongdoing.

Speaking to Page Six, Jackson shared his perspective on the dancers involved, recognizing their shared identity as underdogs and outsiders, much like himself. He emphasized that their collaboration was successful due to the unique connection they shared.

“I don’t believe that they worked as much as me as a dancer outside of them being dancers for this job.

“(The Gaga job) was it. And it was OK that it was it because she’s such a huge artist, who else matters?”

Just before the commencement of Lady Gaga’s ‘Chromatica Ball’ tour in July 2022, a group of 10 dancers came forward with a range of claims against Richy. They alleged that he had subjected them to embarrassment, condescension, and disrespect regarding their time.

Richy Jackson Responds to allegations

In response, Richy asserts that only one of the complaining dancers had actually been hired for the ‘Chromatica Ball’ tour.

He further expresses his belief that, in order to maintain their pride and ego, they chose to portray the situation as though they had voluntarily walked away rather than admitting that they simply weren’t invited back. Richy feels that they unfairly placed blame on him in order to protect themselves.

Page Six reached out to all the dancers mentioned in the Rolling Stone article or who had identified themselves online. One of them declined to comment, while Knicole Haggins, who had resigned as one of Lady Gaga’s dancers during the ‘Artpop’ tour prior to ‘Chromatica,’ clarified that she couldn’t have made allegations against Richy as she wasn’t part of the shows.

The remaining dancers did not respond to Page Six’s request for comment. According to Richy, the allegations have been deeply saddening, especially considering that he had assisted some of his accusers in entering the dance industry.

He revealed that he possesses text messages from some of them, sent prior to the conflict, expressing gratitude for his role in their careers.

Richy also acknowledged that it has been his long-standing practice to provide explanations to dancers about why they weren’t selected for a job after auditions, rather than sending them home without feedback. He expressed disappointment that his intentions may have been misinterpreted as condescension towards dancers.

Regarding the other complaints, including claims that he disregarded the dancers’ time and the physical toll of extensive rehearsals, Richy stated that these behaviors were well within the norms of elite-level dance, from his perspective.

Caroline Diamond shares her experience

In a video, dancer Caroline Diamond previously shared her experience, stating that Richy had mistreated her, causing embarrassment and making her feel terrible in the workplace simply because he could. She described Lady Gaga as her dream and expressed disappointment that her dream turned into a nightmare due to Richy’s actions.

All the dancers who made allegations against the choreographer emphasized their high regard for Lady Gaga and stressed that she had no involvement in the situation, as she was not present for most of the dancers’ rehearsals with Jackson.
