Keke Palmer Makes History as First Black Woman to Win Emmy for Best Game Show Host
Keke Palmer reached a historic milestone on January 7 at the 2024 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards. As the first Black woman to win an Emmy for outstanding game show host in fifteen years, she made history.
Palmer won the Password award, defeating nominees Mayim Bialik (Jeopardy!), Ken Jennings (Jeopardy!), Pat Sajak (Wheel of Fortune), and Steve Harvey (Family Feud).
Palmer expressed her excitement at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, saying, ‘Wow. That is so exciting, thank you so much.’ In her acceptance speech, she expressed deep gratitude, almost being speechless. She thanked those who made it possible, including Jimmy Fallon and NBC.

Palmer also acknowledged comedy legend Carol Burnett, 90, who was present at the event. Burnett won a Creative Arts Emmy on the same day for the outstanding prerecorded variety special, ‘Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love.
Palmer began hosting the resurrected NBC game show in 2022, with Fallon, 49, serving as executive producer. After receiving her Emmy, Palmer excitedly shared photos on Instagram, praising Jimmy Fallon and expressing thanks for being a part of the famous game show Password.
This achievement comes after Palmer won her first Emmy in 2021 for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for Turnt Up With the Taylors, which celebrated the freedom to create on social media. She emphasized the show’s beginnings on Instagram, demonstrating that “creating with what you have is enough.”
