Johnny Depp Starts Shooting ‘Modì’ in Hungary
Luisa Ranieri, a renowned Italian actress best known for playing Aunt Patrizia in Paolo Sorrentino’s “The Hand of God,” has recently joined the cast of Johnny Depp’s film “Mod.” This movie endeavor, which is now filming in the alluring city of Budapest, explores the life of the renowned Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.
Alongside Ranieri on film is her countryman Riccardo Scamarcio, who plays the mysterious painter and sculptor renowned for his rebellious nature and avant-garde modernist style to creating dramatic portraits and nudes. The character of Maurice Gangnat, a renowned worldwide art collector, is played by the iconic Al Pacino.
The talented cast of the movie also includes Antonia Desplat, Stephen Graham, Bruno Gouery, Ryan McParland, Benjamin Laverne, and Sally Phillips, all of whom promise to add to the film’s depth and richness as it explores the extraordinary life and artistic legacy of Amedeo Modigliani.
Luisa Ranieri portrays Rosalie, the owner of a charming Italian café in Paris who was immortalized in Modigliani’s work, in “Mod.” According to legend, she took on a maternal role for the sinful artist, tending to him when he was intoxicated or in a desperate financial situation.

After appearing in “The Brave,” a movie he co-starred in with Marlon Brando, for 25 years, Johnny Depp is making his directorial comeback with this movie. Depp’s performance of Louis XV in Mawenn’s “Jeanne Du Barry” came after a contentious 2022 defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard, which attracted a lot of media attention.
A moving representation of Modigliani’s crucial 48 hours in war-torn Paris during World War I is provided in “Mod,” which is based on Dennis McIntyre’s play of the same name. These hours cemented Modigliani’s reputation as an artistic giant.
“Mod” is being produced by Pacino and Barry Navidi, who has been his manager for many years. The movie’s financial support comes from IN.2, the production company’s European division. A producer has also been added: the ILBE Group from Italy, run by Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi.
In addition to “The Merchant of Venice” (2004), “Wilde Salomé” (2011), and “Salomé” (2013), producer Navidi has now collaborated with actor Al Pacino on four separate occasions.
Following many weeks in Budapest, which is doubling for Paris, the “Mod” filming is anticipated to travel to Italy.
